Our Guide!

My name is Ethan Bertini

Experience:

  • CPR & First Aid Certified

  • Four years instructing fly fishing courses at Orvis - San Antonio.

  • Two years worth of guiding at Four Seasons Anglers in Laramie, WY.

  • Five seasons training with Alaska Kingfishers on Nushagak River in Bristol Bay, AK.

  • Five years with 100+ days on the water.

A fly rod was put in my hand for the first time when I was two years old, when it started as a father’s day tradition with my grandfather. It gained more traction as my grandpa took me on the occasional fishing trip. In high school, I tore my ACL in track practice and was forced to “take it easy” for about a year. That summer, I fished every other day, on average, at a neighborhood pond… and it’s all snowballed from there!

Background:

San Antonio is where I was born and raised, but the Hill Country and its rivers are where I grew up!

As a conservation advocate and a wildlife geek, I see my impact currently being greatest through the life of a fly fishing guide.

Though my goals span far beyond what I currently offer, I invite you to join me in fly fishing some of the most beautiful areas in our state - and areas that are truly dear to me!

I’d like to think I offer more than a fishing service with each of my trips, as I’d like my clients to walk away with at least a few more things at the end of the day:

  • Knowledge & Confidence to fly fish on their own again

  • Fascinating details about the environment and watershed we’re fishing

  • Desire to explore more fisheries & communities through fly fishing

I can guarantee that I will communicate with you what the conditions will be, how it will likely affect our fishing, and that my effort to land you a fish will never be lackluster. However, I hope that by the end of every trip, my clients can see there is much more to being on the water than landing a fish.

What's Provided?

  • All gear necessary to fly fish will be provided on all trips: rods, reels, line, leader, flies, etc.

(If you’d like to fish conventionally, you will have to bring all of that gear with you.)

  • It is recommended you purchase your own set of waders & wade boots before each trip, IF NECESSARY.

(I will communicate with you about this prior to the trip. I do have a couple sets of extra waders, however, there are no guarantees I’ll have a size that accommodates everyone.)

  • Lunches will be provided on all full day-trips!

(Sandwiches, snacks, water & a soft drink of your choice. If you are allergic to anything, please make me aware at least a day before the trip!)

  • Alcohol WILL NOT be provided and is prohibited on all wade trips. However, you are welcome to bring your own with you on float trips. **

  • If you have your own fishing gear, I encourage you to bring it!

(This is not because I don’t want you to break my rods and lose my flies, although that IS a bonus… Especially for those unfamiliar with their own gear, it is a great opportunity to get more comfortable on the setup & flies you’ll have access to on your own!)
